{October 8, 2009}   Fashion in Detroit

Wow, what a great week I had last week.  At A Girly Girl Boutique, we were so busy after the fashion shows for the WIOG Family Fun Fest and then I received an email to be a guest of Kevin Christiana at the first ever Fashion In Detroit.  I must say, I was hesitant at first because I was so booked and I only had a few days notice.

For those of you who don’t know, Kevin Christiana was on season four of Project Runway and makes frequent appearances on the Rachel Ray show.  He is now designing his own line called MYNT 1792, a great lifestyle clothing line.  Well, you know….I had to go.  I even arranged for my husband, David,  to attend as a photographer and I would be interviewing Kevin for an article for the Fashion Plate for the Review Magazine.

Well, I had a blast and it was soooo great to be seated front row, watching the fashion shows instead of backstage producing the fashion shows!  Afterward, I did get to interview Kevin Christiana and also Barry Zinn who is also part of the MYNT 1792 team, which explained the name of the other line they are developing called Christiana-Zinn!  What great guys!  Seriously, two very down to earth, humble people and it was a great pleasure to speak with them.  Here is a great picture that my wonderful hubby took.

Keep an eye out for this up and coming designer and I will let you know when the Review Magazine-Fashion Plate article comes out!

I am so pleased to tell you about my piece for this issue of the Fashion Plate for the Review Magazine.  It is titled Pigskin and Paper Roses and is a piece about Homecoming.

Thanks to our models Fawn and Drake for taking part in the photo shoot and my gifted and talented husband David for the magnificent photos.  We even made the front cover and they are saying that all of the photos from  the shoot may end up on their website!  Let me tell all you Girly Girls, that is exciting!  Also a big thanks to Robert for this incredible opportunity!  Check out the Review Magazine and the special insert of the Fashion Plate available at different locations in Saginaw and around Saginaw County.  Get them before they are gone!

{September 2, 2009}   Blushing Girly Girl Cheeks
Blush

Blush

Girly Girl cheeks sometimes need help blushing!

BETTER BLUSHING #1: A good rule to follow for most makeup purposes: POWDER CLINGS BEST TO POWDER….so for long-lasting blush results, brush a bit of translucent face powder (or a powder foundation) on cheeks before applying your powder blush. #2: Touch your brush tip lightly over your powder blush product, then tap to remove any excess powder – this will help you control the amount of color going onto your skin. #3: Apply sparingly to cheeks – it’s much easier to add more color a little at a time, than trying to clean up after using too much. #4: If you accidentally apply too much, simply tone down the color with any translucent skin-toned loose powder – don’t try to use your fingers or hands to rub off the blush (the natural oils on your fingers will only make a dark, uneven mess on your cheeks and nobody wants that!). #5: And now, the most often asked question: EXACTLY WHERE DO APPLY MY BLUSH? Look straight into your mirror and give a big smile. On your cheek, align your blush brush with the outer edge of the iris of your eye and no lower than the tip of the nose. You are locating the fullest (the ‘apple’) part of the cheek. Starting there begin a sweep of blush color, softly applying the color back toward the mid-to-upper ear area (this is the area slightly underneath your cheekbone). For most natural results, place the most concentrated amount of blush color on the fullest part of the cheek. The drawing below will help.

OTHER HINTS: – DO use similar tones when selecting blush and lip colors (for example, avoid using a pink blush with a coral lip color). – With or without a tan, all year long you can create a pretty glow with your makeup – it’s easy! Select a powder blush or blush glow in a pretty coral or pink, sweep it across cheekbones; then sweep a very small amount in the crease of your eyelid. Add shine to your lips with a matching coral or pink gloss, brush on black mascara and you’ve got a natural, glowing look!

{August 22, 2009}   BB Dakota

Well, it’s official…the Jacket that Bella wore in the Twilight movie is back!  I knew that Bb Dakota would jump on that bandwagon (if they were smart anyway).  I received so many inquiries about that coat when the movie came out and there really wasn’t anything out on the market with the same styling.  Keep your eyes peeled for the Bella jacket by BB Dakota, here at A Girly Girl Boutique in Saginaw, Michigan.

{June 17, 2009}   Metallic Fabrics

So metallics are back in the news.  Just take a peek at this recent picture of Girly Girl Jennifer Aniston

Why are we enamored with Metallics?  Take a walk back in time and see how metallic fabrics were used……mostly to signify royalty!  They were the only ones who could afford them, after all.  That is what makes metallics so popular; you feel like a million bucks in them!!  Once reserved for the higher echelon of society; thanks to textile mills, now many can look glamorous for smaller amounts of money.

SO don’t be shy…go get something metallic and show the world you are not afraid to look beautiful!

{February 27, 2009}   Designer Fashion

Designer Fashion is everywhere you look.  Sure ladies want to wear awesome womens apparel from great designers and there are many that I like.  I carry BB Dakota at A Girly Girl Boutique for a couple of reasons.

The BB Dakota line is from a great designer, Gloria Brandes who brought sensibility and style to the fashion world.  If you access the BB Dakota website you will see that she states,”the BB Dakota girl has attitude and confidence.”  She continues, “Offering (its) customers “big fashion at small prices” is our mission.”  ““We try to make great fashion more accessible,” she continues.

This explains why since being introduced, or as the website explains it catapulted,  the line has been popular and continues to evolve.  I speak from experience when I say that I have never seen so many ooohs and awwws at designer fashion as when Girly Girls come into my store.  They go from rack to rack exclaiming their thrill at their new finds, BB Dakota and Jack!

So how can you pass up a spectacular sale on the great BB Dakota and Jack inventory on our website?  Well, you can’t if you have any Girly Girl genes in your body!!  Hurry to the online store to get 30% off these great fashions before it’s too late!

{February 19, 2009}   Girly Girl Makeup

My BB Dakota line this Spring/Summer at A Girly Girl Boutique indicates the return of fabulous bright, cheerful color.  Woo wee!  I am so happy.  I love color!

So you may ask, “What makeup do I apply this year to dress for the season?”  It is simple.  Let the color speak for itself!

The makeup you wear should only accentuate the positives, especially during the day.  Fabulously lined eyes and mascara complimented with subtle eye shadows create demure eyes.  A great blush of color and nude, glossy lips complete the look.  The palette you wear will add the rest of the color.  The color should be on your body only, not your face.  This is the most effective way to wear them both well.  Want the total package to look good, follow these tips.  If you wear too much color on both your face and your body, you run the risk of looking a little freaky and that is not a good look for my Girly Girls.  Let your natural beauty shine through and the colors you wear will add the hues!

With that said, if you need some new color palettes for the spring,  look to my website for great makeup lines.  This set is very inexpensive and has everything you need to walk out of the house looking fresh faced and ready to stop in to grab up that new BB Dakota coat you have been wanting for spring.  It’s great and Manilla Yellow!  bb_dakota_jack_darlitaDoes it get any better than that?!

{December 8, 2008}   Holiday Styles

So it is that time of year when in the midst of all the hustle and bustle, we MUST attend certain Christmas parties.  Whether it is the office party or family, you know you want to look fabulous.  I love the holidays because we women look for reasons to get dressed up and this time of year you don’t have to look far!  The fashions this year are so inspired by Christmases past, I absolutely love them!  The fabrics are shimmery and the styling is simple but the statement is very feminine.  I love the floral and jacquard prints!

These dresses from BB Dakota are a case in point.    The Daytonbb_dakota_bloomington                                                                                                                 And The Bloomingtonbb_dakota_dayton1
