{September 24, 2008}   Miss Photogenic

That is right all my Girly Girls; Paige Lawson, Miss Saginaw,  took home the award for Miss Photogenic at the Miss Michigan Teen USA 2009 Pageant over the weekend.  Paige worked hard so I am glad she didn’t go home empty handed.  I am also excited about the fact that her beautiful picture was taken by my husband, David and you can check out his other stuff at his website.

I think Paige was a little disappointed, but she shouldn’t be.  She did such an amazing job and I know she will come back next year and win the title.  She is solid!

{July 11, 2008}   Pampered on the Patio

It is here once again, Pampered on the Patio in conjunction with WGER Magic 106.  Last month’s event was a huge success and A Girly Girl Boutique was on hand with the 3D Agency models for a great fashion show.  The event is supported by the vendors offering their wares, but mostly it is a great time to hang out with your GIRLFRIENDS and drink some cold beverages at a great place; The Sawmill.

Let me tell you, the food at the Sawmill is great.  The vendor’s offerings make you feel truly pampered and when you think about it, you realize that you do deserve a grown up time out!!

Don’t miss some great fun, great conversation and maybe a little retail therapy on Thursday, July 17 from 5-8pm at the Sawmill, right off Midland road.  See you there!!

{May 27, 2008}   Plus Size Models

Congratulations to America’s Next Top Model and Tyra Banks for their recent selection of the winner.  Whitney Thompson is a beautiful young lady and took absolutely stunning pictures so why not be crowned the winner.

Body image is a very common subject, especially in our household!  I myself have fallen prey to the “must be thin” mantra that is out there, which is somewhat understandable, given my situation.  I was formerly a size 3 and never had to worry about my weight my whole life.  I actually could eat anything I wanted and never gained an ounce.  I had no idea what it was like to struggle with weight issues even though everyone in my immediate family did, in a huge way.

That all began to change about 4 years ago when I approached 40.  No, I don’t feel age has anything to do with it.  I think life has something to do with it.  I was completely stressed out and it showed on me physically.  My entire body started to change in ways that I knew weren’t right and I tried to explain to the doctors what was going on, but each one of them refused to listen.  They were content to try to shove pills down my throat which is not what I wanted.  Keep in mind that I was conscious of my body in a good way.  Yes, I was previously “thin” but I also was deliberately trying to eat healthy; a habit I had developed in my early twenties when I began learning about nutrition.

My search for a return to optimal health started three years ago when my weight began to creep up for no reason.  In three years I had put on a lot of weight and was run down, exhausted and in great pain all the time.  Tired of medical professionals trying me on HRT and other drugs, I finally found the most amazing doctor to help me.  Dr Paul Meyer actually listened to me and told me that NO, I didn’t have to feel like I was just because I “WAS GETTING OLDER” as the other docs had told me.  He also negated previous statements such as “GET USED TO IT” and “THIS HAPPENS TO ALL WOMEN”.  Can you believe that a woman female gyno told me that.  I went to her thinking that SHE would understand and help me get to the bottom of it!

{February 23, 2008}   3D Agency

With the birth of A Girly Girl Boutique came the dream of teaching modelling again and inspiring young girls to reach for their dreams.  We have brought in some young ladies and done photo shoots to add pics to the website and I even had the opportunity to produce a fashion show in December.  But what took place Thursday evening has truly excited me.

I was asked if we could supply some models for a benefit fundraiser for the soon to be opening Mid Michigan Children’s Museumwhich was a red tie event.  Of course I was excited to have the opportunity and shortly recruited four young ladies.  Gabrielle, Amber, Christina and Sada all took part in the benefit.  They wore clothing from A Girly Girl Boutique and we did makeup and hair before the event.  Sada was a brand new model and this was her first event for the agency.  Her performance was impressive, as were all of the girls.

The event was a success for the girls.  The auctioneer told me he was impressed with the young ladies and he thought they were from the Detroit area.  The organizers of the event told me that they were impressed with how professional the girls were and they helped raise quite a bit of money for the organization.  Their presence was an asset.  Now they are booked for another benefit in a week.  That’s cool!
